North Carolina, one of the Southern States in the United States of America

North Carolina is a southern American State, located on the Atlantic Seaboard. North Carolina is situated next to the state of Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia, and owns the largest population of Native Americans among all states east of Mississippi River.

The state of North Carolina has a wide range of elevations, from sea level on the coast to 6,684 feet high in the mountain area. Atlantic Ocean has strong influence on the climate of the coastal area, which gives a humid subtropical weather, while the mountainous part of the state has a subtropical highland climate. The coastal region has mild winter and moderate summer, whereas the higher elevations have cooler summer and cold winters. Tornadoes, hurricanes and thunderstorms impact the state regularly, especially in the eastern part of the state.

Thanks to the geographical diversity, North Carolina has a wide range of recreational facilities, from water activities at the various beaches along the coastal area, to hiking, hunting, ballooning, rock climbing etc in the mountainous area. There are in total 34 states parks and 14 national parks within the state.

Getting There

There are in total 4 international airports within the state of North Carolina, being Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Piedmont Triad International Airport, Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Wilmington International Airport. Other than these, there are also 2 regional airports in Ashville and Fayetteville.
The state owns the biggest state-maintained highway system across the nation, so travelling by car is definitely not a problem in North Carolina. Trains serve daily in 17 North Carolina cities on 6 routes, while ferry going to East Coast cities from North Carolina is also available.

Raleigh

Raleigh is the capital city of North Carolina. It is also the headquarter of many of the state’s cultural institutions. Do not miss N.C. Museum of Art, Joel Lane Museum House – a Georgian-style manor plantation house built in the 18th century.

Charlotte

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina which has been growing very rapidly especially its financial sector. You will find NASCAR, the Charlotte Bobcats and many more in this lively city.
